The Orthodoxy |
Religion plays a huge role in the land of Alta. The Mundanes follow their gods passionately, as religion stands above all else in most places. Religion influences the government, the cultures of the people, and the aggression between the Mundanes and the Magi.
Whether you believe it's true or not is up to you.

The Gods and Man
According to the Mundane Orthodoxy, the gods were the beginning of everything, creating Alta and everything in their galaxy from scratch. The main three gods, Axmus, Retos, and Xyxtx, created the rest of the gods using the same dust they would use to make the stars that would light the night sky. Together, the gods created the sea, the land, and the sky, and after all was finished, the created life. Man was made from clay, and was made moldable and adaptable. This, though, would prove to be man's downfall. One day, the god of mischief, Fyfdis, split Man in two by creating the Magi. The Magi were gifted with magic, which led them to believe that they were superior over the Mundanes, who possessed no magic power. This caused extreme conflict between the Mundanes and the Magi, who were now aiming to tear down the Orthodoxy and replace the gods with themselves.
The gods saw how powerful the Magi had become, and knew they had to be stopped. They gifted the Mundanes with strength and hardiness, and gave them the technology they needed to defend themselves against the Magi. The Magi and Mundanes were now locked in a heated war, which would last 400 years. The tensions were harsh and relentless, and it got to the point where the god of battle Igione himself had to join the Mundanes in battle. After 400 years of relentless war, the Magi population had been diminished, with the few survivors retreating into hiding.
The persecution of Magi was a practice continued for centuries, even when the war was a distant tale of past legends. The angry flames between the Magi and the Mundanes never truly extinguished, they simply died down over time. In the modern Altarian society, the outright murder of Magi is illegal, but that doesn't stop the aggressive Anti-Magi organizations who attack Magi villages by gas and physical assault. In retaliation, Magi gangs have formed together to wreck havoc on Mundane cities and villages.
